THE WILD BISON OF YELLOWSTONE:
BUFFALO FIELD CAMPAIGN CO-FOUNDER MIKE MEASE TOURS AUSTRIA

Mike Mease, co-founder of the Buffalo Field Campaign, will be available for guest lectures in Austria between October 8 and 15, 2026. On two occasions, Mike will also appear in Nasswald. On October 7, he will give a presentation—including videos and images from Montana—in the seminar room of the Wirtshaus zum Raxkönig. On October 10, he will spend the afternoon by the campfire at the Wildnis Zentrum Nasswald, sharing stories from 30 years of experience with wild bison in Yellowstone.

Since 1997, Mike has been documenting the migration patterns of the last free-roaming plains bison in the northwest of Yellowstone National Park. He speaks about their ecological role, current challenges in wildlife management, and advocates for their official recognition as wildlife in the neighboring states of Montana and Idaho. His work combines conservation, scientific documentation, and public outreach, with the goal of securing long-term habitats and migration corridors for bison in the grasslands and foothills along the Rocky Mountains.

Upon request, Mike shares his experience through guest lectures, seminars, or school sessions for interested audiences throughout Austria. His work is voluntary. Donations are welcome but not required. You are welcome to request an appointment between October 8 and 15 at: events@wildnasswald.at

CAMPFIRE STORYTELLING EVENINGS

On special occasions and selected dates we're hosting storytelling or film campfire evenings under the open sky with river-mountain-forest backdrop at the Nasswald Wilderness Center. Adventurers, musicians and other guest speakers will be invited to join us for these kind of gatherings. Afterwards we will have open talks around the campfire. We don't charge for entry but ask for voluntary donations.

Talks, music and movies at the Nasswald Wilderness Center will mostly revolve around themes of outdoor and adventure travel, mountain and backcountry life, survival and bushcraft.

If you're an adventurer or artist and would like to share your stories, please to contact us.

Dates will be posted here and on social media.
