WILD RIVER WEEKEND: 55 KM OF PADDLING IN 2 DAYS

Looking for a weekend get-away from it all? This is the ultimate river expedition for adventure enthusiasts, true pirates and nature lovers. The tour takes you through Austria’s longest free flowing, undeveloped river, the pristine and mighty Salza.

TRIP ITINERARY

  • We will meet for this trip at our campsite in Wildalpen and then head to the entry together. Overnight, you will have the option to either stay in one of our canvas tents with wood stoves or in your own tent.
  • On day 1, we will start with canoes on the upper Salza. We’ll canoe through pristine wild canyons of the Klausgraben until we arrive at the Prescenyklause. After taking a quick break we’ll head on downstream. After a long calm stretch, the river picks up speed and the mood will become more euphoric as we go through ever greater rapids, which peak in Wildalpen, where we’ll get out and camp for the night.
  • On day 2, we’ll be going down the lower Salza in one or two big rafts. This section combines both, stunning nature and an adrenaline laden run. One rapid chases the next, but we will also take breaks to enjoy and take in the raw and magnificent nature of this section, do small excursions and jump down rocks.

THE SALZA RIVER

ADVENTURE

EVENING CAMPFIRE

3 RIVERS IN 5 DAYS:
A WHITEWATER CANOEING JOURNEY FOR BEGINNERS

Schwarza, Salza and Ybbs are the Eastern Limestone Alps’ most rewarding whitewater canoeing rivers. This expedition will initiate, immerse and make you fall in love with whitewater canoeing and kayaking like no other. You’ll be on the river for five consecutive days, experiencing breathtaking nature, exhilarating rapids, clearwater refreshment, rock jumping action and the combined beauty of it all when reminiscing about your daily accomplishments at the campfire in the evenings. Pick up your paddle and join on this adventure of a lifetime!

TRIP ITINERARY

  • We’ll meet for this adventure on the night before the first day at the train station at Payerbach/Reichenau or directly in Nasswald (if you travel by car). In Nasswald, you can either stay in one of our canvas tents with wood stoves or sleep in your own tent. Our second campsite will be in Wildalpen, where you also have the option to sleep in one of our canvas tents or your own tent.
  • Day 1 will start in Nasswald where you’ll be prepped for the days ahead and will take your first tour on the Schwarza, a river canyon tour that has it all, rock jumps, whitewater swimming and fun rapids.
  • Day 2 we’ll head out to the Upper Salza. There, we will enter an isolated and remote river canyon that takes us deep into wild and raw nature. Stunning landscape and a few challenging rapids take this trip to the next level.
  • Day 3 on the Middle Salza will provide cream of the crop whitewater canoeing. Time to put our skills to the test.
  • Day 4, depending on water levels we’ll start already on the Ois river or launch our boats in Göstling at the Ybbs. Exciting rapids and very calm scenic sections make the Ybbs a great canoeing river. Though, we will be facing some weirs along the way that will require us to carry boats around them.
  • On day 5 we will continue down the Ybbs all the way until we reach Waidhofen an der Ybbs, our final destination. After completion of the last day, we can drop you off at the train station at Waidhofen an der Ybbs, or we can take you back to Nasswald (if you’ve left your car there).
