WILDNIS CAMPS

At our wilderness camps we’re offering children and youth a palephora of activities, games and workshops to experience in Nasswald’s pristine nature. Thinking back to the times of the lumberjacks who originally settled this valley, and even further back to our primeval ancestors, we’re asking ourselves what challenges and obstacles they may have faced and what means, tools, ideas or other ways they had to master them. Workshops in fire making, building shelters, carving and crafting with natural materials will be complemented by interactive games and outdoor adventures. We’ll also make excursions into the forests, hike up mountainsides and go swimming and cliff jumping at the river on hot summer days. The program also includes canoe, kayak and tubing tours. In the evenings we’ll have campfires and barbecues.

DAY 1: WILDERNESS PEDAGOGY DAY – THEME OF THE DAY: AWARENESS/AIR

Consciousness-building games & exercises in nature; peripheral vision, stalking and sneaking, hiding.
Axe throwing – trick shots and axe throwing games & tournament.
River hiking to the cave.
Evening Campfire

DAY 2: FOREST ADVENTURE DAY – THEME OF THE DAY: SETTLING/EARTH

Introduction to building techniques & structural types. Building shelters in the forest.
Introduction to Camouflage, Camo games and “Capture the Flag”.
River bathing & wading in the stream (Schwarzriegelbach).

DAY 3: WHITEWATER DAY – THEME OF THE DAY: EXPLORING/WATER

Introduction to navigating wild rivers
Canoe & kayak tour on the Schwarza river.
Cliff jumping & whitewater swimming, local tubing
Preparation of a “Holzknechtsterz” in the Hubmer Hut

DAY 4: ORIENTATION & TRACKING DAY – THEME OF THE DAY: ORIENTATION

Introduction to orienteering and navigation with compass and map. Field exercises.
Introduction to Escape & Tracking
Terrain Game: “Catch me if you can!”
Fire making
Evening Campfire
Optional: Night hike & stargazing

DAY 5: WATER AND FOOD SEARCH – THEME OF THE DAY: GATHERING

Herbology & alpine expedition to Schwarzau im Gebirge.
Collecting mushrooms and wild herbs, preparing dough for stick bread.
Ascent to Falkenstein.
Visiting Naturpark Falkenstein
Closing by the campfire with barbecue: stick bread & hot dogs

Bushcraft and learn about survival essentials from our coaches
Enjoy the campfire with your friends in the evening
Stay in large rustic canvas tents with wood stoves
Go on a tour into the mountains or ride a canoe down the river
Learn about herbs & experience the forest in a new interactive way
